This is one of the most impressive pieces in our rainbow obsidian collection. Hand-carved from material mined over 20 years ago near Tequila, Jalisco, Mexico — a volcanic region renowned for producing the world's finest rainbow obsidian. The rough stone was held for decades before being recently shaped and polished by artisan carvers in Magdalena, Mexico, where obsidian craftsmanship has been passed down through families for generations.

At approximately 9 inches, the scale allows the iridescence to unfold in wide, dramatic arcs. Bands of electric violet, deep green, metallic gold, and cobalt blue flow across the polished surface like an oil slick — but entirely natural, created by microscopic layers of magnetite nanoparticles trapped within the volcanic glass during formation.

Rainbow obsidian is volcanic glass formed during rapid lava cooling. Its signature iridescence comes from ultra-thin layers of magnetite nanoparticles that diffract light into vivid spectral colors.
