A hand-carved star freeform with vivid rainbow flash. 477g · 5 x 2 in.
Carved into a five-pointed star form from a single piece of Mexican rainbow obsidian, this piece catches light in every direction. The raw material was mined over 20 years ago near Tequila, Jalisco — one of the few volcanic regions in the world that produces obsidian with this level of rainbow iridescence. It sat as rough stone for decades before being hand-carved and polished by artisans in Magdalena, Mexico.
The star shape amplifies the obsidian's natural light play: rotate it slowly and you'll see bands of electric blue, green, violet, and gold sweep across the surface. The polish is mirror-smooth, the flash is strong, and the color saturation is vivid — hallmarks of vintage material from this deposit.
This is a piece that rewards attention. Set it on a desk, a windowsill, or a nightstand and watch the colors shift with the light throughout the day.
Rainbow obsidian forms when silica-rich lava cools rapidly, trapping microscopic layers of magnetite nanoparticles that create vivid iridescent banding.
