One of the larger pieces in our rainbow obsidian collection, this abstract freeform was hand-carved from material mined over 20 years ago near Tequila, Jalisco, Mexico. The volcanic deposits that produced this quality of obsidian — with this intensity of color and clarity of banding — are largely depleted. This rough stone was recently brought to life by master carvers in Magdalena, Mexico, where families have worked obsidian for generations.

The generous 6-inch form gives the rainbow flash room to truly perform. Wide bands of iridescent green, violet, blue, and gold sweep across the polished surface in dramatic waves. The abstract shape is intentional — the carver followed the natural flow of the stone, letting the iridescent layers dictate the contours rather than imposing a rigid form.

This is a statement piece. It commands attention on a mantel, a bookshelf, or a bedside table. The kind of object you reach for, turn in your hands, and never get tired of looking at.

Rainbow obsidian is a volcanic glass that forms when silica-rich lava cools rapidly, trapping thin layers of magnetite nanoparticles at different depths. These layers create vivid iridescent bands — green, violet, blue, gold — visible only after the stone is expertly polished. No two pieces share the same pattern.
