This impressive Smoky Quartz cluster from Brazil presents a natural study in light and shadow, with numerous points radiating from a central matrix. The substantial form and varied crystal terminations invite close observation, revealing layers of translucent smoky color. It stands as a testament to the slow geological processes that shape such treasures.
Smoky quartz achieves its characteristic hue through natural radiation acting on trace aluminum within the quartz lattice over geological epochs. A truly fine specimen, like this one, exhibits an even, transparent smoke rather than an opaque black, with each crystal maintaining sharp, well-defined terminations. Such large, clean clusters are particularly rare, setting them apart from more commonly heat-treated dark quartz.
