A natural phantom amethyst point from Bahia, Brazil containing powellite inclusions — a rare calcium molybdate mineral (CaMoO₄) that fluoresces brilliant yellow-green under UV light. These specimens were first identified in 2025 from the Bahia region and represent one of the most exciting recent discoveries in the mineral world.
Under normal light, you see a classic phantom amethyst with visible growth layers recording the crystal's history. Switch to a UV/black light and the powellite inclusions ignite — glowing intensely in a way that transforms the entire piece. Each point is natural and unpolished.

Powellite is a calcium molybdate mineral first described in 1891 and named after American geologist John Wesley Powell. It forms in the tetragonal crystal system and is prized by collectors for its strong fluorescence under shortwave UV light. The powellite inclusions in these Bahia amethyst points create a dramatic glow effect that highlights the phantom formations — growth interruptions preserved inside the crystal like geological timestamps.

About the stone
Amethyst's purple comes from trace iron irradiated naturally inside the quartz over geologic time. Heat it past roughly 400°C and the purple turns golden — most commercial citrine started life as amethyst.
