Sunstone Crystals for Sale
Sunstone is a plagioclase feldspar — typically oligoclase or labradorite — distinguished by aventurescence, a glittery optical effect caused by reflective inclusions of copper or hematite platelets suspended within the crystal. When light hits these inclusions, the stone flashes with warm metallic sparkle. It registers 6–6.5 on the Mohs scale.
Varieties & Origins
Indian sunstone is the most widely available variety, with a warm orange base and subtle copper shimmer. Oregon sunstone is rarer and highly collectible — its copper inclusions can produce vivid red, green, and bicolor flashes unique among feldspars.
Sunstone belongs to the same mineral family as labradorite and moonstone, though its warm tones and metallic flash give it a completely different character.
