This malachite specimen presents a rare, distinctly fibrous texture, sometimes referred to as 'velvet malachite'. Its surface is composed of countless needle-like crystals, creating a tactile and visual depth that absorbs and reflects light in unique ways. Malachite is a copper carbonate, forming as a secondary mineral where copper ore weathers, and while banded forms are common, this fibrous growth is particularly prized. The finest examples of this habit frequently originate from the Katanga copper belt of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
