Tourmaline is a family of boron silicates that grows as striated prisms in pegmatites; black schorl is the common member, elbaite gives the pinks, greens, blues and watermelon zoning. Color zoning, sharp terminations and crystals standing on matrix are what collectors pay for. Bicolor and blue indicolite crystals are scarce.
