Authentic Amethyst Crystals

At Crystals.com, we source genuine Amethyst directly from trusted, family-run mines in Brazil and Uruguay — the two regions that produce the world’s finest violet formations. Each piece is hand-selected for color saturation, structure, and luster, then individually photographed so the exact crystal you see is the one that arrives.

Amethyst is the violet variety of quartz (SiO₂). Its color comes from trace iron within the crystal lattice, activated by natural irradiation deep in the earth — which is why saturation ranges from soft lavender to deep royal purple, and why no two pieces match. Most of our specimens formed inside basalt geodes over millions of years. At Mohs hardness 7, Amethyst is durable enough for everyday display and jewelry, and it has been prized since antiquity — it remains the February birthstone today.

We never sell dyed or artificially enhanced stones. Our collection spans clusters, cathedral geodes, cut-base towers, and refined jewelry-grade pieces. Large geodes make sculptural centerpieces for considered interiors, while smaller clusters and points bring natural presence to shelves, desks, and bedside tables.

When you buy Amethyst crystals online at Crystals.com, you’re choosing authenticity, transparency, and founder-led curation — every piece offered as a singular work of natural art. For pieces that pair beautifully with Amethyst’s violet tones, explore our Clear Quartz and Citrine collections.

Amethyst Common Questions

  • Amethyst is the violet variety of quartz (SiO₂). Its purple color comes from trace amounts of iron in the crystal structure, activated by natural irradiation underground — which is why tones range from pale lavender to deep royal purple. It rates 7 on the Mohs hardness scale and is the traditional February birthstone.

  • Natural, always. We never sell dyed, coated, or artificially enhanced stones. Every specimen is hand-selected at origin and photographed individually in natural light — the exact piece you see in the listing is the piece you receive.

  • Our Amethyst is sourced through direct relationships with family-run mines in Brazil and Uruguay. Both regions are famous for basalt-hosted geodes; Uruguayan material in particular is prized for its deep, saturated purple.

  • Keep it out of prolonged direct sunlight — amethyst’s color can fade with extended UV exposure. Dust with a soft, dry cloth or rinse briefly in lukewarm water and dry thoroughly. At Mohs 7 it resists scratching in normal display, but avoid hard knocks on delicate points and edges.

  • Look at color saturation (deeper, even purple is rarer), crystal structure (well-defined, undamaged points), and luster. Then consider the formation: clusters sit flat and display easily, cathedral geodes make dramatic floor or console pieces, and cut-base towers work on shelves and desks. Every listing shows the exact specimen with its real dimensions and weight.

  • Each piece is carefully wrapped and packed by our team — large geodes are double-boxed for safe transit. US shipping is free on orders over $150. If anything arrives damaged, contact us and we’ll make it right.
