Let customers speak for us
Blue Calcite is a calcium carbonate mineral with the formula CaCO₃, crystallizing in the trigonal system. Its soft, icy blue color — ranging from pale sky blue to a deeper steel-blue — is attributed to trace amounts of various impurities during formation. Like all calcite varieties, blue calcite has a Mohs hardness of 3, making it relatively soft and best suited for display rather than heavy wear. The most prolific sources of blue calcite are Mexico, Madagascar, and South Africa.
Blue calcite shares the remarkable optical properties of the calcite family, including strong double refraction and a perfect rhombohedral cleavage that produces clean, geometric fracture surfaces. Among collectors, blue calcite is valued for its calming color, its accessibility as an affordable mineral, and its availability in large, polished display formats. Raw blue calcite masses from Mexico are particularly popular for their size and vivid coloring. The stone also fluoresces under ultraviolet light, often producing a bright blue or white glow — making it a favorite among fluorescent mineral collectors.
Our blue calcite collection includes:
- Raw masses and specimens
- Polished spheres, hearts, and freeforms
- Tumbled stones and palm stones
- Bracelets and jewelry
