What is Fighting Blood Agate?
Fighting Blood Agate is a rare variety of agate found in Hebei Province, China, prized for its intensely vivid red, orange, and black banding. The dramatic coloration comes from high concentrations of iron oxide (hematite) and manganese oxide deposited in volcanic host rock. The name "Fighting Blood" refers to the fierce, fiery appearance of the banding — swirling reds and blacks that resemble flames or flowing lava. These agates formed in gas cavities within ancient basalt flows, where silica-rich fluids slowly deposited layer after layer of chalcedony over millions of years. The most valuable specimens display high color saturation, sharp contrast between bands, and complex swirling patterns.
