Rare Collawood Petrified Wood Slab
An extraordinary Collawood petrified wood slab from Zile, Turkey — one of the rarest and most visually striking fossil materials on earth. This 5-pound polished slab displays vivid blue azurite, green malachite, and teal chrysocolla banding flowing through ancient fossilized wood grain. The swirling patterns are entirely natural, formed millions of years ago when copper-rich water penetrated fractures in buried wood, depositing these intensely colored minerals as the wood slowly petrified.
Collawood bridges the worlds of mineral and fossil collecting. True specimens from Zile are extremely scarce — the deposit is limited and diminishing. This is a museum-grade display piece that will only become rarer over time.
ANCIENT · RARE · IRREPLACEABLE
What is Collawood?
Collawood is a rare form of petrified wood found exclusively near Zile, Turkey. The name comes from chrysocolla ("colla"), one of several copper-bearing minerals that replace and fill fractures in the original wood. The most prized specimens contain deep blue azurite, vivid green malachite, teal chrysocolla, and occasionally yellow volborthite — all naturally deposited over millions of years. No two pieces are alike. Collawood is sought after by both fossil and mineral collectors worldwide.
