Water and especially salt water will dull the stone's deep blue color, damage the metallic sheen of the Pyrite, and potentially cause the stone's components to break down. Always use dry cleansing methods (like Selenite or sound) to preserve its integrity

Genuine Lapis Lazuli is distinguished by its complex composition and color. Look for these signs:

1. Pyrite Flecks: Authentic Lapis must contain gold-colored, metallic flecks of Pyrite (Fool's Gold). If the stone is solid blue with no flecks, it is likely dyed Sodalite or synthetic.
2. White Calcite: Real Lapis almost always has natural streaks or patches of dull white or light gray Calcite. A perfectly uniform blue color is highly suspicious.
3. Color Transfer: You can gently wipe a small, inconspicuous area with a cotton swab dipped in acetone (nail polish remover). If color transfers, the stone is dyed.
