A hand-polished amethyst sphere, cut from natural Brazilian amethyst. Each sphere is one of a kind — expect soft lavender-to-violet zoning, wispy internal veils, and flashes of clarity that catch the light as you turn it. You will receive one sphere selected from the lot photographed.
Amethyst is the purple variety of quartz, colored by trace iron and natural irradiation within the crystal. Brazil is the world's most important source of fine amethyst, and this material shows the classic mix of violet color zones and icy internal patterns the region is known for. At 7 on the Mohs hardness scale, a polished sphere is durable enough for everyday display and handling.
The sphere is one of the oldest forms in the lapidary tradition — cut to reveal a stone's interior from every angle, with no fixed front or back. Amethyst has been carved and treasured since antiquity and is traditionally associated with calm and clarity, making it a natural fit for a bedside table, desk, or meditation space.

About the stone
Amethyst's purple comes from trace iron irradiated naturally inside the quartz over geologic time. Heat it past roughly 400°C and the purple turns golden — most commercial citrine started life as amethyst.
